John R. Mugan is an Of Counsel attorney at JEFFREY BURR. He graduated seventh in his class from Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1973 earning his Juris Doctor (J.D.). While attending law school, John worked in the Clerk’s Office of the Douglas County, Nebraska, County Court (Probate Jurisdiction), Honorable Robert Troyer, Douglas County Judge.
John is an accomplished attorney with over thirty years of extensive estate planning and business law experience including estate and trust litigation and has received the highest Martindale-Hubbell rating of AV Preeminent by his peers. John has represented numerous individual and corporate fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and litigants throughout his professional career. John is a frequent speaker on estate planning and estate/trust litigation to professional associations and institutions and has testified as an expert witness.
John is Past President of the Siouxland Estate Planning Council and of the Woodbury County Bar Association and is a member of the Southern Nevada Estate Planning Council, the Probate and Trust Sections of the Nevada State Bar Association and the Iowa State Bar Association, and the Nevada Justice Association. John’s civic and charitable associations include serving as past president of the local chapter of Rotary International and as a board member of the Siouxland Regional Cancer Center, Missouri River Historical Development, Sioux City Public Museum, Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, and Heelan High School.
John is licensed to practice law in the states of Nevada, Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota, and before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Tax Court.
